The Oak Trust

Governance

The Oak Trust is a charitable company limited by guarantee.  It has entered into a Master Funding Agreement with the Department of Education and a Supplemental Funding Agreement in respect of the academies.

Within our Trust certain activities have been delegated by the Trust Board to groups that support the operation of the Trust.  Accountability remains the responsibility of the Trust Board.

There are three layers of governance:

  • the Members of the Trust are guardians of the governance of the Trust and who have a wholly strategic view of the Trust, setting out the vision and values and ensuring they are adhered to.
  • The Trustees ensure the Trust delivers on its aims and provides support and challenge to individual Academies. The Trust Board can delegate specific tasks to assist them in carrying out their duties and obligations. Delegations can be made to its committees, Finance, Risk and Business Operations and Standards and Performance and the Local Advisory Committees at each school.  The Trust Board can also delegate responsibilities to the CEO, individual Trustees, and the Executive Team.
  • The Local Advisory Committees who are focused on the interests of the individual schools and include parent and staff representatives.

Effective governance is at the heart of any successful school, academy or multi academy trust and our model of governance will deliver this. The diagram below provides a summary of what governance looks like in our Trust.
